This is the reason why people get upset, even angry, when faced with opinions contrary to their own. The mind immediately interprets it as a threat to its existence when somebody criticisms or challenges its cherished thoughts, opinions or ideologies. The false and limited beliefs about us have given rise to the fiction of a small, transient, individual self, which begets suffering. The fiction has become so complete and ‘real’ that we completely identify with the fictitious role, which these beliefs have spun around us. We started looking at ourselves with the eyes of others and eventually believed us to be what others think of us. We absolutely forgot our inner being, as we tend to identify with the role that we are playing in this drama of life. ” — Excerpt from the book “
