Love and Devotion in Spiritual Life

“True love and devotion can transform your narrow human existence in to the spacious expansion of consciousness that encompasses all. True devotion can work as a wonderful alchemy that can change all the mundane things in to the sacred and divine. When the mind is imbued with devotion to your own inner Self, all your thoughts and actions are liberated in the subtle presence of the guru as humble offerings of fragrant flowers of multiple colours. This is the meaning of true worship.
Real love never binds you; it makes you free. True love and devotion kindles your own inner light. Real devotion is not mindless and undiscriminating following of anotherís whims or personality; it is not dumping your karma on your guru, relinquishing your own responsibility towards yourself; it is not standing in the long queue hoping to have a glimpse of your guru or offering some flowers showing your respect. Real devotion is an unbroken longing for the truth, which manifests itself as silent reverential gratitude. Real love is a humble receptivity of a silent heart that is prepared to melt and merge in the divine. — Excerpt from the bookAwakening Inner Guru” by Banani Ray and Amit Ray (This material is copyrighted, and published by permission from Inner Light Publishers)

Mind is our Subtle Body

“The mind is actually an extension of the body, the subtler part of it. It is more appropriate to say that the physical body is an extension of the mind. The mind is the subtle part of body as the body is the grosser part of mind. The mind is another manifestation of the same energy that makes the body. As a tree is rooted on the earth, the mind is rooted in this body. — Excerpt from the bookAwakening Inner Guru” by Banani Ray and Amit Ray (This material is copyrighted, and published by permission from Inner Light Publishers)

Energy Body ‚Äď The subtle base of our mind

“Energy body is the base for our constitution. It is the base for our physical body as well as the mind. According to yogic scriptures, there are seventy-two thousands of nadis or subtle energy channels in the body. Among them, the nadis called Ida, Pingala and Sushumna are most important. Energy flows through these subtle channels of the body as water flows in the rivers. All our thoughts, emotions and physical states are expressions of the flow of vital energy along these energy channels. — Excerpt from the bookAwakening Inner Guru” by Banani Ray and Amit Ray (This material is copyrighted, and published by permission from Inner Light Publishers)

False Identifications with the roles we are playing

“Take a moment to close your eyes; sit up straight and just relax. Now ask yourself, who you really are. You might probably find yourself having answers as follows; like, you are a teacher, a student, a priest, a devotee, a doctor, an engineer, a manager, or, a father, a mother and so on. These are but the roles assigned by life to your body-mind construct. It is perfectly okay to use them for the purpose of convenience in your daily life, but most often, we identify with the role so completely that we take it to be an identity of us. We forget that by thinking so about ourselves we are in reality identifying with a social mask and a transient station of life that can go away any moment. If all these roles, situations and positions are taken away from us, we continue to be who we are in our very essence. All these are situations and roles have hardly anything to do with what we really are at the core of our being. — Excerpt from the bookAwakening Inner Guru” by Banani Ray and Amit Ray (This material is copyrighted, and published by permission from Inner Light Publishers)

The Working of the Mind

“With little regards for our conscious permission, the mind goes on producing thoughts that float like clouds in the infinite sky of our consciousness. In a moment of excitement, fear, anxiety or anger, the thoughts and emotions become so dense that they completely cloud the inner sky of consciousness. The mind not only creates thoughts and emotions, it also gathers them from the environment. It stores the habitual thought patterns, ideas and impressions as the memory, which it brings up from its reserve, in appropriate occasions. It also recycles the thoughts that were stored as the memory, and produces dreams during the hours of our sleep. — Excerpt from the bookAwakening Inner Guru” by Banani Ray and Amit Ray (This material is copyrighted, and published by permission from Inner Light Publishers)

Power of Forgiveness

Power of Forgiveness

Forgiveness is a divine virtue. It makes you divine. To be able to forgive others, first you should learn to forgive yourself for anything that you regret doing. Learning to forgive yourself is the first step in learning to forgive others. Let go of the memory of the things, persons and situations that brought pain, and never look back.
Forgiveness lightens the heart by releasing us from the chain of anguish and anger. Forgiveness is an important exercise in letting go of the past. Mind has a tendency to hold on to the memory of past hurt. It runs the film of past events, and in the process, clouds the consciousness. Understand that the past has totally ended. Remembering and reliving them in your mind will serve no purpose other than hurting yourself further. When we consciously let go of the past, we lighten the burden of life.

Power of Forgiveness

By releasing the past, you walk towards a new beginning, opening the doors for better things to happen to you. This way, you are not doing a favor to others; rather you are doing favor to yourself by stepping out of the chain of suffering. Holding on to any hurtful feelings does more damage to you than it does to anyone else. By forgiving, or letting go, huge amount of energy so long blocked as anger, hatred or revengeful thoughts will be released and transformed. The released energy will flow in the body, heal the body and brighten up the mind. This creates happiness.
We should consciously release the hurtful baggage of the past. Know that, it is our choice to carry on the baggage or put it down forever. Be the wise choice maker that you are. You will find that conscious choice to forgive, let go and move on with your life will be such a liberating experience for you.

Observing the Mind – You are not Your Thoughts

Thoughts are nothing but recycled ideas, notions and imaginations that come back repeatedly in different disguises in different situations. They appear on the sky of our consciousness as a stream of words and images replayed, or reproduced by our mind, which mostly gathers them from an external situation. The mind gathers these ideas or imaginations from our parents, cultures, educational backgrounds, media or the society; then it recycles them to fit them in our specific life situation.

Though thoughts seem to appear automatically on your consciousness making you a helpless spectator, you are not as helpless as it seems to be. You are free to choose your thoughts. Your helplessness started from identifying with something, which is not yourself. You think that you are one with these thoughts. Your identification with the thoughts begins with the false belief such as, ‚ÄúThis thought is me or it is mine.‚ÄĚ This identification makes you miserable by making you experience the slavery of the thoughts and emotions. You forget that you have the choice, regarding which thought you want to welcome and which to reject.

As you learn to observe your mental realm, you find that, most of the time this stream of words and images goes on without a purpose; like shadows, they produce a veil clouding the inner sky. You find that thoughts come to us, stay for a while and go away. This is true even for the thoughts of most obstinate nature. You will notice that your mental movie changes continuously. Bubbles of thoughts and emotions are rising, floating for a while, and then, changing their forms. The most persistent thought of yesterday are gone today, leaving nothing but a memory; just so, the most persistent thought of today will become ‚Äėnothing‚Äô in the future.
